Work Integrated Learning will take place at Gauteng Department of Health hospitals and clinics. It forms part of the Diploma in Nursing programme requirements.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be South African citizens
- Reside in Gauteng Province
- Have a Senior Certificate, National Senior Certificate or National Vocational Certificate in Primary Health
- Alternatively, be currently completing Grade 12
- Meet the applicable subject and academic requirements
- Have a passion for nursing
- Register a profile on the application system before applying

Senior Certificate requirements
Applicants with a Senior Certificate must have:
- English at Higher Grade D or Standard Grade C
- Biology at Higher Grade D or Standard Grade C
- Mathematics at Higher Grade D or Standard Grade C
- An M score of at least 17
National Senior Certificate requirements
Applicants with a National Senior Certificate must have:
- English at Level 4
- Life Sciences at Level 4
- Mathematics at Level 4 or Mathematical Literacy at Level 5
- An Admission Point Score of 27 or higher
Life Orientation counts as half of its score when calculating the APS.
National Vocational Certificate requirements
Applicants with a National Vocational Certificate must have:
- At least 50% in the fundamental subjects
- At least 60% in the vocational subjects
The fundamental subjects are:

The relevant vocational subjects are:

- Public Health

Current Grade 12 learners
Current Grade 12 learners must meet the National Senior Certificate requirements using their final Grade 11 results.

Duties and Responsibilities
Successful applicants will be required to:
- Sign an agreement with the Gauteng Department of Health
- Attend lectures
- Participate in Work Integrated Learning
- Complete practical training at Gauteng Department of Health hospitals and clinics
- Work shifts during practical training
- Participate in practical training on public holidays, weekends and at night when required
Selection Process
All shortlisted applicants will undergo a compulsory psychometric assessment.
Applicants who successfully complete the psychometric assessment will undergo medical surveillance. This process will include:
- A physical examination
- Verification of supporting documents
